- Hildegard Family Hymnal
-
The duo of J. Pace and D. Presnell use optigans, table-top guitars, pianos, organs,
flutes, synthesizers, tapes, records, drums to interrogate the ghosts residing in an
old, family homeplace. Entry #1 in their Wunderkammern series.
- Chesterfield Gorgeous Self-Titled
-
Forget the gnomic noodlings of current twee psych folk bandwagoneers, this here
recording is real folk music. The works revolve around a place, a home, and how
modern forces encroach upon the place, the home, the family. It is a sober, beautiful
rumination on the end of an era, a beautiful study of the pastoral. Fiddle drones,
melancholy ballads, free-folk guitar explorations, homemade hubcap dobro tunes.
Wonderful matter!
- Lloyd Wyatt untitled *OOP*
-
A twenty minute drone scored for guitar and organ. Pyre music. Sound as smoke.
First entry in the Cropduster 3in series, and it's likely to exterminate much
of the doldrums growing in the valley.
- Hildegard Acte Gratuit
-
A collection of recordings as a trio, and quartet, where J. Pace and D. Presnell
are joined by Patrick Mulcahy (Drilltone) and Keith Wood (Hush Arbors). Improvised,
communal music, running the gamut of folk, improvisation, electronic, noise, and art
music. Sold on Hildegard's spring tour, and likely to be released elsewhere in
the not so distant future. Wunderkammern 2.
- Ed Yazijian Six Ways To Avoid The Evil Eye
-
Originally released in a handmade version of 33, Six Ways to Avoid the Evil Eye, Yazijian’s first solo record, won fans such as
Joshua Burkett, who has reissued the album on lp, and Dave Keenan who wrote a lavish review in the Wire. The record is a sublime
blend of free folk, eastern drone, and psych, unlike anything offered by his contemporaries.
- Astral Blessing St. Roch cdr
-
The final recording of this so-called “legendary” group, finds the band holed up in a New Orleans shotgun shack (before the flood),
playing banjos, droning guitars and singing in a folk fervor, largely enabled by copious amounts of Chartreuse from the Saturn Bar.
- The Saluda Grade The Auger’s Reverse cdr
-
A duo recording featuring Lloyd Wyatt and Sparrow Durham, mostly on guitar, fender Rhodes, and organ, whereby they reminisce on
those old familiar folk themes, like trains and mountains, and corn liquor. Somewhere along the way, the train sounds and the corn
liquor and the mountains take over the mix, flattening everything in their path. It’s a heavy ride, and the conductor has done a lot more
than cocaine, that’s for sure. A follow up to Lloyd Wyatt’s untitled 3in, which received a kind review in the Wire.
- Owl Klub self-titled cdr
-
When not working on Hildegard, the trio of Mulcahy, Presnell, and Yazijian often joined together to brood, hum and intoxicate.
The result, ½ of which was recorded in a primitive cabin, is a release which swerves through the minor chords of British folk, the
drone plateau of krautrock, and the halcyon days of early 90’s noise. Guitar, Fiddle, Organ, Drums--Best
played loud, accompanied by Dickel.
- Various Artists The Nativity Scene
-
What better soundtrack to the end times that this 24 track collection of "turned on" Christian youth music? The material is wildly diverse; the hard Hendrix-influenced
fuzz of 4th Movement, the avant-classical/garage stylings of Tedd Smith, the orchestrated pop of Turning Point, the Byrdsy harmonies of The Mission, the huge breakbeats of David
Fanshawe's "African Sanctus," the inner space mind melt of Crosscurrent Community's "Genesis," and so much more. Assembled from various thrift store finds, and contains no overlap with the
similarly-themed "resurrection" and "Holy Fuzz" comps. Includes three panel booklet with photos, artwork and commentary. This is a split release with Elefantplatte (follow the link for mp3s).
